I would have been struggling to find a footing without the obvious Kent hint from Mercia. For that, and for solving the most obscure of the three lemmata (love this word) the Laurels clearly should go to Mercia

Oh dear, we disagree. Leaving aside the question of who sets L, no, there has been no mistake with Kent. In the early days of this thread Subcontrabass used to titillate us with many Kentish references: Alfred Deller and Invicta spring to mind, and I think Maestro Nagano has cropped up too; but we've never had Kent as the 'ackshal' answer. So well done Vinteuil for spotting that particular lacuna (love that word too)!
