I guess it's my turn. I think this may fall into the bleak category too - let's see.

Is it a convention that Q gets missed out?

        Razumovsky?

Beethoven's later string quartets were Op. 59, etc. commissioned or dedicated by Andrey Razumovsky
A torban is a type of lute which Razumovsky played
Beethoven wrote in praise of the fat one (Lob auf den Dicken) which was Schuppanzigh who was leader of Razumovsky's string quartet. I think the quartet still possibly exists today.

Dave, Q is an optional extra, if it gets missed out it's OK to go back and set a Q if anyone wants to, it's a sort of a funny letter with not many Q words.

oh sorry, should have mentioned that
we have permission to omit Q, X, Y & Z unless you can think of a new one (which I'm sure you can)
have you seen the full list of all the words we have had in the past?

oops, cross-posted with the mistress of the kitchen who has brilliantly solved R in all detailed respects

          Opus 59, the Razumovsky quartets
old Schuppy's fingers got too fat to play his violin

And I missed that one! That's the trouble with a rare sunny day.

Waiting for Anna's S now. Patiently, of course. She might concocting more than a puzzle.

Yes, you know me too well mercia and Angle, Mistress of the Kitchen and all Culinary Delights! Actually, I wish I hadn't answered as I now have to concoct an S.

So, this is very hastily cobbled together.

S is a living composer, in fact one of my favourites. Really easy. Just three works to identify plus his name:

A ballet choreographed by Mr. Helpmann
A piece of musical theatre influenced by Lully, written in Latin and an indigenous language, but not ready for a grand occasion a year later
              Did Michael Jackson pinch this?

Edit: I'll post a list of what we've had later on for Dave.

Mel is honey in some languages I think. I'd need to check the etymology stuff again, but I think whether it comes from Latin or Greek there is a connection. Mellifluous was just intended to be a nudge in that direction.

Etymology is fascinating isn't it? Something to learn every time you come across a word. Now, I will be more or less offline until 9pm which will give you all ample time to crack the S

Indeed he did! And has been designated A Living Treasure, along with Germaine Greer and Barry Humphries. Strange bedfellows indeed! I have him on at the moment, some may say a strange choice, but not I.

Edit I'll check in just past 11.00

You could put on Barry Mackenzie for a multimedia experience!
