According to wikipedia, Charlie Bubbles is an American film. Bonnie and Clyde was made in 1967 but does not fit the description...

      Time for some tips?
The bandleader's name doesn't begin with 'C', but shortly before the Second World War he played in a smaller group, the name of which did. You need to find the famous bandleader siblings first - and there haven't been that many - and then the name of the group associated with one of them.
The star of the film has left the building.
The musical also begins with 'C' (but not the linking 'C').

and I do not know of a song in a musical containing the word Clyde.

Yes, according to Wikipedia's list, Charlie Bubbles is an American film but if you click on it one of the first statements is that it is British: "Charlie Bubbles is a British film of 1967 starring Billie Whitelaw and Albert Finney, and also featuring a young Liza Minnelli"

        However,
Bandleader might be Charlie Parker with the unrequired one being CharlES Mingus.
The film might be "Charlie Bubbles" made in 1967
The Musical could be "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown", Act 2 of which ends with a reprise of "Happiness," and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown".

I am rather hoping that that is not correct. I wonder why ?

Clearly, I am wrong, having read Ofca's post which crossed with mine.

Is this the first time a puzzle has been solved without anyone managing the crack the clues?

Well done, mercia! Tommy Dorsey (brother of Jimmy) also played in a group called the Clambake 7; Elvis starred in a 1967 film called 'Clambake'; and the song you mention is the first number in Act 2 of 'Carousel'.

I realise I initially read the question wrong and was looking for 2 bandleaders in the answer but I thought it was a very difficult one to get to grips with, so well done mercia (even it was by accident rather than design)
