    Thanks, Caliban.

After an unsuccessful attempt at an early night, I am still wide awake so shall post U:

Which non-British U is concerned musically with
a bridge, a crossing of hands, and transcription.

Only the first four letters of each word are identical.

    Back around 10.

      über:
      -brücken
      -kreuzen
      -tragen.
Das war eine ganz nettes Rätsel!

        Vielen Dank, Ofcachap.

U is fast becoming one of those letters which are harder to set but easier to solve.

You get the V. The Oxford Companion versions are :

Übergang or überleitung - a transition or bridge passage
        Übertragen - transcribe
Übergreifen - to cross the hands in piano playing

        Wo ist die Sonne?

Hier scheint die Sonne aus einem klaren Himmel. I'm working on V.

            Und jetzt, auch hier

I think I shall reurn to English: I might get myself into difficulties.

              What V links:
              (a) A famous charity founded early in Victoria's reign in an equally famous churchyard;
              (b) A waltz composed 23 years later; and
              (c) An English opera premiered in Germany?
The three elements span 63 years between them. Two of the three answers are musical works.

                c) sounds as if it ought to be Delius - A Village Romeo and Juliet

                  b) an 1864 work by Josef Strauss

Unfortunately, I am away out now, until Friday evening, so I must leave V to someone else.

That would be the waltz and the opera, then?

Yes...I was trying to find a neat way of saying that, once you have the name of the charity, which does not begin with V, you then need to find a musical connection which does, but is not a composition. The opera, and thus the word that is common to all three, has been correctly identified.
EDIT I have to correct a numerical error in the question. The gap between the first and second events is twenty-one years, not twenty-three. The overall period covered remains 63 years. Apologies.

Time for another clue? The waltz involves some seasonal arrivals that, even as I write, are probably bringing joy to the hearts of Bill Oddie and Kate Humble. (I saw some in Wales a couple of weeks ago).

So, is the waltz Village Swallows from Austria ?

As Angle has already suggested, supra

Yes, I know that but I wondered if Ofca had seen it, hence him giving a further clue three posts above? Cannot figure out the Charity founded in a Churchyard at all.

He may have suggested it, but Anna actually named it...
Be that as it may: Taking 1865 (the date given by most sources) as the year of composition of the waltz, which charity founded twenty-one years earlier will lead you to the third Village?
