I do wish some more messageboarders would join in, even if they don't solve anything! We just like having a laugh

The proportion of active contributors to visitors/observers does seem to be fairly constant, although our numbers have shown a modest increase of late. In the past, I have 'plugged' the current question on other threads/boards, appealing for help from people whose main, but not exclusive, interest lies in, say, jazz and the choral field.
If only people knew what they were missing - mouth-watering culinary tips, priceless Corrie updates, a fascinating seminar on Pink Floyd.....not to mention the countless fascinating snippets and facts that crop up as we hack our way through the undergrowth to the next answer. Just think - I now know more than I did about Count Arthur Strong - am I grateful? Of course I am.

What S links Siegfried, 'London' and a string quartet?

Off the top of me 'ead... I'm thinking Salomon due to the Haydn symphony link - was Salomon behind the 'London' symphonies?

And now I think of it, there was a Salomon String Quartet (maybe still is)

But Siegfried - no idea...

EDIT: But Wikipedia has: Siegfried Salomon (3 August 1885 Copenhagen-29 October 1962 Copenhagen) was a Danish composer.

Taneyev wrote Orestia, a dramatic trilogy by Aeschylus

I was quite captivated by two symphonies of Taneyev but since the numbering changed I have not really managed to sort them out. Quite atmospheric stuff, especially before 8 on a late January morning. They appeared occasionally on Radio 3 at about that time of the day - before all the waffle, when they just gave the details and let the music speak for itself.

I shall be back about 10, with any luck.

Neat. It's his piano quartet and quintet I keep meaning to listen to... Anyone who taught Rachmaninov and Medtner deserves a listen
