Well, I'm off work for sure, having been away and working all the time. But hardly a holiday - it's Bakewell market day, so the banks of the Wye are adjacent.

Do you know, I thought there was only one River Wye in the world? That which rises in Plynlimon of course which is also the birthplace of the Severn. I keep saying it, but this thread is so educational!

Well done rubbers on your bike ride to Brecon and back, you must be really fit, do you often go to Brecon Theatre, just looked at the programme of what's on and there are certainly some temptations there.

I too had no idea there was another Wye!

I suppose I am pretty fit, he said modestly. I did a mountain bike marathon in Builth last weekend, and have a 100-miler road event in the Cotswolds on Easter Bank Holiday. I normally aim to do about 5 or 6 100 milers each season.

The Brecon Theatre has a lousy musical acoustic but they do put on some good stuff now and then. My favourite is the Brecon Baroque festival in October which the truly wonderful Rachel Podger organises and performs at

DP: There's a foot ferry (maximum 12 passengers) that operates from, I think, Easter to September between Felixstowe, Harwich and Shotley.

We have since visited Felixstowe again and had an interesting look round Landguard Fort.

Amused to see that the coffee stall by the ferry is housed in a freight container - Quelle finesse!
