I have never heard a note of (the) Velvet Underground...

Also to pick up mercia's point (although his post, which I saw at some point last night, now seems to have disappeared ), why was green particularly associated with Satie? As that is what 'viridescent' means... Am I missing a link here (apart from the general 'colourful' point rubbers makes)?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

You might have if you have seen the advertisement on the telly the other year for - I think - Toyota (?) - which used the hypnotic VU track "I'm sticking with you ('cos I'm made out of glue...)" [Maureen Tucker, lead vocal] ...

Erik Satie's velvet suit was green. It was a bit of an indirect clue which rubberneck hit on immediately.

As for his poser, I am less than sure. I know that Berlioz once addressed a letter, "Dear Lazybones". Where's the W in that ?

        Now for the day.

Anna was in Liverpool yesterday and I doubt if she could have had better weather. I hope she was pleasantly surprised by all that she saw and experienced. We shall know soon.

Nowt to do with Berlioz, but W is a composer.

Well I haven't seen the advert but Good Lord is that song theirs? I know it very well indeed, as it is the main song in the soundtrack of one of my favourite films of recent years, "Juno", watched 4 or 5 times. (Anyone who hasn't seen it and wants 2 hours of high quality pleasure: do watch it!). It is indeed very catchy. I had no idea that's what Velvet Underground sounded like - I assumed it was altogether more dark and sleazy.

As our French cousins say (but in French): I shall go to bed tonight less stupid. (I often think that about the AA thread )

And trust smarty-pants rubberknickers to know the colour of Satie's smarty pants and jacket

The Floyd are way up there, rubbers, but the Velvets just edge it, on the strength of Sister Ray :cool2:

I'm sticking with You is one of their lighter tracks, Caliban, and a rare vocal for Ms Tucker. You will be pleased to hear that much of their output IS dark and sleazy. You would definitely know Venus in Furs I imagine - often used to accompany adverts, documentaries etc.

A track which doesn't figure on Lou Reed's Rock n Roll Animal, which is a favourite from my student days. Very uncool, I realise, and frowned on by VU fans, but what fantastic live musicianship! And coincidentally there's another link to my W...

You're certainly getting warm, Mercia, although it's not Dick, or Richard...
