    Sounds a bit sinister to me.

      Go for it Angle.

      EDIT: And when you give your answer, please pronounce the name of the composer very deliberately.

      I am very shortly to be forced off this computer by the teenager, so I will see you all when I see you. Adjudication at this stage is probably not needed, so...

      Anon, peeps.

        Franz Liszt : Unstern! Sinistre. Disastro, S208, 1886

        Unfortunately, Tapiola has surrendered his computer to an off-spring and Mercia has also left

          A surprise but momentary return.

          Angle, full marks. I would have given a date for this remarkable, extraordinary, breathtaking, pioneering, disturbing work, but various sources gave me different dates.

          V for you.

            more foul imprecations!

            I'm glad to say I have never heard of this late masterpiece by the master, but it sounds right to me. I give Angle the Victory salute

            EDIT: Ah, I see Taps already has.

                That's enough Liszt! (Ed.)

                It's all been very active here in the last few hours. Had the questions been otherwise, I would have been sorry to have missed all the fun
                "...the isle is full of noises,
                Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
                Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  I shall try wake early on Saturday so as not to leave everyone hanging around.

                  Here is V

                  The gentlement dressed viridescently won the race after the falsification of the entry document and possibly played in the tube.

                  Two elements have musical associations.

                  Good luck.

                    I've been wondering if the 't' at the end has some deep cryptic significance, or is just a little typo...?

                      It's safe to return now Caliban, the foul air has now been dispersed thanks to a refreshing gargle with Liszterine

                        Not sure how early you mean, Angle but a combination of my cough, bladder requirements, Mrs R snoring and ruminations about mouthwash has roused me from my bed in the wee small hours.

                        Might we be talking Velvet here?

                        Erik Satie was known as the Velvet Gentleman after shedding his austere sartorial style for a more colourful look;
                        National Velvet involved the horse being entered into the race due to take place at Aintree in under 12 hrs time (topical!) by a faked registration;
                        and The Velvet Underground, which if Anna were here she would be telling us was still her favourite band of all time

                        PS I shall be offline until 10 am

                          It was a typo, an addition to which I am prone. There is no missing letter in the previous sentence here.

                          Rubbernecker will be back in just 11 minutes if he's running to time and he will have the pleasure of setting W.

                          Well done, rubbernecker. I didn't think it would be quite so easy.

                          So now, up and about on a lovely, clear, sunny morning, I shall get about life so that I can be here again later in the day, perhaps.

                          Previous Ws:

                          Waldtaube, Weill, Walkure, Winter, Wilhelm, Walton/Weller/White, Walter, Wenlock, Williams

                            Thank you, Angle. I wonder how many times I have said that myself over the course of this thread!

                            Which W connects Gluck, lazybones and an idyll?
