It would appear so rubbers. From the evidence of the second clue, which is the only one that springs out at me at present.

Belated congrats to mercia for the solution to "S" - I am in admiration.

Come on Caliban, you know you want to utter the name of that much maligned, much misunderstood visionary

      rubbers,

May I be awfully ill-mannered and just give what I think is the answer? I have been itching to do a particular "U" since I chanced upon this thread. It's not even that difficult, but as it was the first cryptic puzzle that ever entered this particularly empty head I am champing to try it out.

Just back home... I will not be drawn! (Anyway I'm not sure which 'favourite' you're on about... I assume it's the Hungarian, but I can't see where you get to T... but I haven't really had time to think about your question).

        Taps, you go for it!!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

            Apres toi, mon cher Angle...

EDIT How incredibly rude of me, A. I mean, of course, "apres vous".

DOUBLE EDIT: Have just googled this dish and it sounds yummy!

And don't you be so coy, mon cher Caliban.

Could Caliban feel that he is being pressed to serve ?
Maybe he is just waiting for Miranda.

Be not afeared. Go for it.

Here she is. What an astonishing body. This Miranda has intrigued me for a long long time.

Your use of "afeared", young Angle, as just won my undying admiration. A much underused expression.

                Ok, then, enough already.

                Tasso.

Tasso ham - which sounds delicious. Your verdict Angle?
Tasso lamento e trionfo by one of the greatest composers who has ever lived. Ever.
Tasso Janopoulu - Egyptian pianist and accompanist.

Thank you, mercia, for increasing my culinary knowledge. And my knowledge of Egyptian classical musicians (which previously ranked as zero).

Yours now is the U, it seems.

                      Most kind, Angle.
Let's get this out of the way - I suspect it may be solved instantaneously:

                      U:

A catastrophe for the left-hander in the 1880s.

Good grief, mercia. Where are my brains?

                          Sorry.

I should add: we are looking for a piece of music.
