Well, that was very poor editing on my part. My reply should have read:

mercia, you have the correct port in that selection but two of them are eliminated because only one is in the appropriate Department

I am a bit intrigued about why you thought Dieppe, though.

        D = Death, correct

mercia is right about Aida. Ramades was walled up in a vault below the temple and found that Aida was already in there. Act 4 indeed. Well done.

Caliban and Tapiola are correct about Elina Makropoulos. Well done.

... and the three are :

The road to a Channel port
The hands of an undetected murderer
          An excess of emotion

Would you like me to be a bit more helpful ?

King Lear died of an excess of emotion, did not he? Reimann's opera?

Lulu (Berg) dies at the hands of an undetected murderer (who is Jack the Ripper).

I have to go out for an hour. Here's a bit more information about one element:

The road (on the way) to a Channel port
The port is Le Havre and the event occurred during the process of deportation

Manon dies on the road to Le Havre, whence she is to be deported. (Massenet's opera).

A good wiki entry ('Luis Melendez').

Not the slightest resemblance. But I like the picture - and the pose...

                          Well done, Tapiola.

Lulu, by Alban Berg, is entirely correct and so is
                          Manon, Massenet

                          Now the last one
                          Another clue?

                          An excess of emotion
A pair of lovers. It is only in the long night of death that they can be truly together.

The sun is shining in Liverpool, aghain, and maybe even in Manchester. A pity we shall not know yet how Anna has fared on her journey to Manchester and beyond.

... so my Isolde didn't fit the bill?

                              Sorry, Vinteuil, I missed that.

Yes, Isolde is the final part.

                              D-DEATH

The walls of a dungeon [Aida: Verdi]
The road to a Channel port [Manon: Massenet]
The hands of an undetected murderer [Lulu: Alban Berg]
An excess of emotion [Tristan and Isolde: Wagner]
A refusal to renew youth [The Makropoulos Affair: Janacek]

Well done to everyone. Now I can relax.

It seems to me that Tapiola should pose the E set. Over to you, of the Finnish God of Forests. Terrifying? Spirit? I don't mind if I do but not until after six.

Just enough time to add your Hindemith reminiscences to your burgeoning "composers wot I have met" thread!! I've met more than I thought at first...
"...the isle is full of noises,

                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
