I have just realised that this only works when you are logged in, having thought that my iPad was having another misbehaving fit and sometimes displaying one way and sometimes the other.

Since most of the time I am reading not contributing, and therefore not logged in, I think I shall revert to the default latest last mode you get when not logged in. It's now too confusing to find the order changing, as it did just now, on logging in to contribute!

But thanks for the suggestion.

PS! Not just me being stupid. My iPad behaviour is still erratic after leaving the site and returning to it.
