Perhaps this E should have been a Yorkshireman:

An English nightingale sang a little Caledonian song for Her Majesty when she was lost

    Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Cheers Flay - I am currently on no. 38 of Lady Gould's latest festive list but might get a chance this evening ... Are you back on these shores?

You'll need to put more logs on the fire.

If it were to be spelt with a K it would point you vaguely in the right direction, although the country is lower. I want a surname.

(Actually if Eric was a shot in the dark then it was pretty good)

so E was a 16th century composer ? is English nightingale a sobriquet like Swedish Nightingale ? anything to do with Philomela ? was it the queen or the nightingale who was lost ?

                          No it's a title.

Well indirectly you could be right*, but not the original mythical character...

                          * I can't see it in their repertoire mind you, although contemporary composers are listed.

do I have to translate "english nightingale" into another language?

a Caledonian song would be a Scottish song. Was E an English composer ? was the majesty a real queen ?

You could, although no doubt others will have translated it for googling. Yes, a (generic) Scottish song. And the queen was generic too.

The composer was not English, but from a lower land.
