Wrong country and very definitely the wrong religious denomination. The M is not the name of a composer, nor is the cypher linked to a composer.

Yes - and I've spent much of the past two days loading onto this machine all the stuff I had on the old one. Not entirely used to all the irritating differences in switching windows and tabs - and the keypad needs a heftier thump before it responds. But quite fun, too!

Depends on what you put in them

Well, the "messenger" I think might be Mercury,
The "cipher" is a reference to John Wilkins' Mercury, or the Secret and Swift Messenger (1641), chapter 18 of which gives details about how to transmit messages using Musical notes,
                      What was the other one?

Oh, yes the Elf - the one that the Sorceress sends disguised as Mercury to tell Aeneas that he has a destiny to live up to in Dido and Aeneas?

                          Yes, that completes the set.

                            Oh No!

                            A quicky, then:

An N to associate Diedre Gribbin, Bent Sorensen and Stephen Johnson.

(IIRC, another "answer" that's been done before, but with different teaser.)

                                - not what's on the card: but, in a way, not far off the mark, either.
