You were very very close with your Charlemagne Gospel book Ams, would you care to provide the last ingredient? As I said, a timely book. He had more than a few books did Charlemagne.

Yes, finally! Not that it actually contained notated Gregorian chant (i.e. to say I'm not sure that it did - pretty sure it didn't), but Charlemagne was very important in the matter of establishing one particular style of chant, rather than Pope Gregory.
Oh well, I didn't think it that difficult :( Hats off to mercia!

We live and learn:
A Book of Hours is essentially a collection of Christian prayers for recitation at different times or 'hours' of the day. These were written in Latin, the language of the medieval church, and were a simplified version of the eight periods of prayer observed by monks and nuns, from Matins in the morning to Compline at night. However, these prayer books were intended for individual use by lay people.
