Capriccio it is! Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov and Italien by Tchaik.

And the mournful sextet is from the opera Capriccio by Strauss. I hadn't knowingly heard the sextet before today. It has similarities to Metamorphosen, perhaps reflecting Strauss's pain at the situation in Germany at the time.

Hmm, the question posed in Capriccio: "Which is the greater art, poetry or music?" That could be a thread in itself.

Will your next conundrum be Devious, anton?

                          That's dropped me in it!

Torsten Rasch (born 1965 in Dresden) composed Rotter, an opera in two acts.

Das Liebesmahl der Apostel by Wagner, commissioned when he was on the committee of a cultural association in Dresden

Eduard Brendler (1800 - 1831) born in Dresden wrote 'Ryno' - The Knight Errant which was completed by completed by Prince Oscar of Sweden

As an aside, I believe that Metamorphosen was in particular a lament for the destruction of the lives and culture of Dresden
