Sadly, there's no Bach in my answer, not even W F (aka Woof Woof?)

It has Offen been said in the Underworld! Is the W the name of the composer of the Tpt Conc!

Oh and is the Wonderland anything to do with Lewis?

Funny, I ended looking at Perelandra in my researching.

Surely the W is Wedding (not that I can find the others yet)? Ed said it was "not a personal name."

Forget the Wonderland, cloughie. Mere silliness.

I thought that flay's lovely contributions would have helped you all agree over the W word

No, W is not the name of the trumpet conc's composer, but I won't give too much away if I admit that HIS surname contains a W

Is it not Wedding then, Ed?

Sorry, I didn't mean to double bluff anyone, Flay . WEDDING is correct, all that remains is to complete the "opera" and the concerto sections of my clue.

As I seem to have been unhelpful, let me offer some genuine help:

Within a year or two of writing the "opera"', its composer wrote another, more popular, work that is quoted in the tr. conc..

                        Was the Wedding a ballet?

No, scb, again but you're moving towards the correct near-operatic field.

Yes,Anton, Arthur Benjamin wrote the music for Orlando's Silver Wedding. It was staged in the "pop-up" Festival Theatre in Battersea Park as part of the 1951 Festival of Britain.

                                Yes, that's the one!

Mendelssohn, aged 16, and a singspiel rather than a fully-fledged opera. (Seecond Staged production, Oxford , 1987)

                                And the trumpet concerto, Anton?

                                It could be the "decider"
