      An E to unite:

      a Kafka string quartet;
      an Ode in praise of Natalie;
      and an infernal sample of Cage

        I suspect you would find all Cage infernal, Ed. Still thinking...

          I've paid to hear John Cage and "played" 4'33" to 1200 school pupils!

              I have no idea - as I was the Deputy Head i/c. discipline, they wisely kept their thoughts to themselves.

                A bit like Cage then.

                  Heard of thinking outside the box, Cloughie?

                  Replace box with cage. ED

                    They missed the point. There’s no such thing as silence. What they thought was silence, because they didn’t know how to listen, was full of accidental sounds. You could hear the wind stirring outside during the first movement. During the second, raindrops began pattering the roof, and during the third the people themselves made all kinds of interesting sounds as they talked or walked out.
                    — John Cage speaking about the premiere of 4′33″.[9]

                      They would not listen, they're not listening still - Perhaps they never will.

                        Some hear, some listen, but do we know to which group they belong?

                            I'm sure it is mercia, lots of E's there & I think that must be the answer - you are on the money as usual!

                            Ode by Stravinsky has three movements: Eclogue, Eulogy, Epitaph

                            Eulogy for John Cage by the pop group Burning of Rome

                            Epitaph: Zum Gedächtnis von Franz Kafka String Quartet by Boris Blacher (that's a composer that needs a bit of a revisit)

                              Good thinking, mercs & hedgie.

                              The E-word is Epitaph

                              Blacher & Stravinsky (m.#3) align with my thoughts.

                              However, as I implied, you're in the wrong Cage.

                              I'm off to conduct in an inaccessible church behind bars on a country estate.

                              I'll give you until my return to dwell on SAMPLE & A.N. Cage. ( a colour may help - close to infernal)
