Mercia, as ever... brill. Undeserving, shall I finish off? Because I can do Anna's puzzle now!

    J is for Johnny!

Johnny Spielt Auf - Krenek's opera

There are various songs called Goodbye Johnny (inc Primal Scream). But for some reason I am thinking of "Surabaya Johnny" the rather valedictory song in Weill's "Happy End"

And last of course is the Jingling Johnny aka Chinese Pavilion aka Turkish crescent...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Do you know, with all the excitement of the monsoon and being carried away with Wagner and what constitutes a jumper -v- sweater - I had quite forgot I'd set a puzzle!!
Yes, the answer is Johnny: On the card I had Krenek (Johnny Spielt Auf) and Surabaya Johnny (Weill-Brecht) and of course the wonderful Jingling Johnny that we all loved in the Prom - and which, of course - Caliban saw in the flesh! So well done mercia for the initial breakthrough and to you for finishing it off.

Very good. Here goes with a K - after fair notice: I'm only online till about 10 this evening, thereafter off for a few days. I'm sure this will be solved by then but if not I'll have to hand the answer to a willing second to complete!

Bit more chinoiserie... This K links Hampstead, Egypt and a religious building in China.

            One person

            And a type of building

EDIT: Actually, the building might more accurately be decribed as 'Chinese' - not strictly IN China, necessarily...

So, are we looking for something to do with a Pagoda?

Not as such. That word is not an element of the question or the answer

                  I return to no progress

is this person's connection to Hampstead that he was born there, died there, buried in Highgate cemetery (nearby) ?
is he a composer, performer ? is he dead ?

Deceased composer, neither born nor buried in North London.

You will need to drop your 'aitches', mercia, to get the 'Hampstead' element.

                      No Kongs btw...

So we're looking for Chinese architectural influences with dropped aitches?
