Western Wind/ Westron Wynde mix & match really. Stravinsky used the text in his cantata, it's not clear if Taverner was referring to any extant melody of Westron Wynde in his Western Wind mass. Tye & Sheppard wrote masses based on Taverner's cantus firmus.

I'll not "point the finger" at anyone for an XYZA: If anyone wants to put a question up feel free, otherwise tomorrow I'll do the honours (now that's a threat that should get someone moving )

Best said after imbibing a good few drams of Bunnahabhain

Caffarelli was one of the rare documented cases of a child so enamoured of singing that he asked to be castrated.

We're back with our old friend King Xerxes I think!

All three are singers who took the role in various operas...

The first in Handel's opera - the title rôle having been written for him
                The second in J. C. Bach's 'Temistocle'
The third in the well known 1993 opera 'Esther' by Weisgall
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Cracking goal that, I remember where I was when watching that!

                      So onwards and upwards...

Where are "Les neiges d'antan" united with Ecstasy, Friendship and a Serenade, thanks to a Y?

Sounds like the beginning of a music hall joke!

I know a rather vulgar limerick which starts
"There was a young lady from Bruges...:
                                and ends
"Mon Dieu! Après moi, le déluge!"
I'll leave you to fill in the gaps...

Meantime - yes, mercia - Belgian! Definitely
