Yes. Elisabeth Lutyens in a lecture at Dartington in the 1950s. I seem to remember the topic coming up a few days ago.

Yes. It has already been established that the link is "Wenlock".

It depends on whatyou mean by "near". Bredon Hill is in south Worcestershire. Wenlock Edge is in Shropshire.

I just popped in to see what was going on, and will now return to my recording of 'All Quiet On The Western Front' . I think the soldiers on the front line had more idea of what was going on than I have about the current question.

??? It has been established that the link is "Wenlock", so how does Bredon Hill come into the picture?

I was waiting to see if anyone could identify the three specific works.

well all I can offer is

Vaughan Williams - On Wenlock Edge for tenor & piano quintet - though exactly which parts this sets I can't find out

Ireland - Land of Lost Content

Gurney - not sure, could be Ludlow & Teme and The Wetern Playland which set Housman but whether they are Shropshire Lad I can't find out

One out of three. Perhaps it is time to move on. The works I had were:

                            Vaughan Williams: On Wenlock Edge

                            Gurney: On Wenlock Edge

Ireland: Hawthorn Time (first line: " 'Tis time, I think, by Wenlock town" )

I think the next question goes to antongould. He got "Wenlock" and one of the composers. His choice of X or Y.

Possibly a wild goose chase, but the first two seem to lead to XI (as in Roman numeral for 11) for Symphonies number 11 by Hovhaness and Shostakovich respectively, but I cannot follow this with anything for the third.
