                Excellent! A Goulden B....

Last thought before retiring is that if there were only five of the above, we might be in the territory of Dorothy L. Sayers's mystery featuring the excellent Lord Peter Wimsey and his man Bunter...

... but I shall get no further this ay night...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Wimsey went to Eton and Balliol. I wonder if that is relevant.

Oxford, unlike Cambridge, is always relevant......

                        What an extraordinary remark.

Not sure I want to play any more

Annoyingly I stared at the Wiki page over breakfast, and reflected on the Eton and Balliol thing without registering that it might be useful.... And now work has taken over...

[apparently people can get quite hot under the collar if one starts a sentence with so]

so the librettist of Sullivan's Ivanhoe was Balliol-educated Julian Sturgis, an American-born barrister and FA-cup medal winner

... take heart, brother Caliban - there are many on these Boards who take offence equally at "Oxford" or "Cambridge"!
