So, does the "at the table" bit refer to Tafelmusik or Musique de table for a French composer such as Delalande and his Symphonie de la Souper de la Roi? Suppertime?

No. I'd forget the cheese, it's a bit of a red herring
The last day of GMT until October. Lovely - and it's sunny and warmish in Liverpool. Things are looking up, except on the S front.
Angle, who is rarely perpendicular these days.

Don't forget the other pieces: the ballet is also by a French composer and for the one about the piano that inspired all to dance, the cleopatra quote is really very helpful......

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I guess that's salad followed by cheese, I thought it might have been a cheese salad
Salade op 83 by Milhaud was rewritten into Carnaval d'Aix btw. The piece was well received at the premiere but it seems a knife job was done on it by a ballerina.
Well done! Awaiting your Return!
