Not a CD Review listener? There were ear-catching excerpts from his "Brundibar" suite on Saturday

BRUNDIBAR Music by composers in Theresienstadt (1941-1945)
    KRASA: Suite from Brundibar
    ULLMANN: String quartet no.3, Op.46
    KLEIN: String trio
HAAS: String quartet no.2, Op.7 “From the Monkey Mountains” (“Z opicich hor”)
    Nash Ensemble
    HYPERION CDA67973 (CD)

Often if I set a puzzle at the weekend, it'll be based on something heard on Ssturday morning...

V happy for Angle to take over!
Here's an English-language performance of the complete Brundibar

I am afraid not, ferneyhoughgeliebte, and do not quite understand how I come to such responsibility at this time. In fact, taken aback and far from ready. Please go ahead without me.

          Has everyone emigrated?

Well, I see no-one has taken on the challenge of submitting an L, so here goes:

          What L connects

the Underground with a beautiful dream and a selection of vegetables.

I shall not be off to bed for at least another hour and should be back about 11.

Are we talking about an Offenbachian or a Bakerloo-ian Underground?

Are we talking about a Mendelssohnian or a Fauré-ian dream?

              Are the vegetables legumes?

I'll be out for 12:00-16:00 at least

Oh I bit, on returning from a trip about 2am today... but my mental meanderings weren't worth posting!

It's most intriguing and I am continuing to ponder...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Ams I seek to deceive or rather, divert.

The Underground section might be a bit of a struggle for some.

The dream might be considered polished to enhance its beauty, on telling.

The Vegetables are whatever they are in any language.

By Jove, Liverpool is breezy and chilly today, and there are still some traces of snow.

And you succeed in both, Angle!

                    I was toying with Lou?

The connection is L but the elements do not begin with L.

                      Angle is trying to help.

When I first saw this my immediate thought was the same as ferney - L + Underground = Lou Reed but I remember Angle's puzzle were always strictly Classical so the selection of vegetables couldn't be anything to do with Syd Barratt Vegetable Man either!
A selection of vegetables could be a Macedoine. Or possibly not.

One of my early morning meanders, Anna!

I could find no link between Macedonia, Philip etc etc and the other parts of the question!

Then again, perhaps it's a tian of pressed cavolo nero and hispi... You know I'm always on thin ice when it comes to the jolly old veg!!

Yes, but I am slowly initiating you into the Dark Arts of Brassicaceae!
We shall wait to see if Macedonia has any significance, but 'Underground' suggests Mythology doesn't it? Beautiful dream - I immediately think Shakespeare. In other words, not a clue at this stage!

Well, Liszt wrote a Symphonic Poem Orpheus who spent a lot of time in the Underworld, or there's his From the Cradle to the Grave, the latter object eventually ending up "under ground"?

The Liebestraume are three beautiful dreams ...

And many "light classical" piano recital CDs include a "medley" of his most famous pieces.

Ferney, your answer is the best and may be right (as no-one else has given one!) but what about the 'polished' aspect (Angle says "The dream might be considered polished to enhance its beauty, on telling) I am no Classics scholar but there's something about dreams being either rough or polished isn't there, in mythology? As to the vegetables being whatever they are in any language - And, was Angle's 'By Jove' a clue?
Edit: Have to be off by 6pm, hopefully when I tune in a lot later we may be further forward.
