When I first saw this my immediate thought was the same as ferney - L + Underground = Lou Reed but I remember Angle's puzzle were always strictly Classical so the selection of vegetables couldn't be anything to do with Syd Barratt Vegetable Man either!

I could find no link between Macedonia, Philip etc etc and the other parts of the question!

We shall wait to see if Macedonia has any significance, but 'Underground' suggests Mythology doesn't it? Beautiful dream - I immediately think Shakespeare. In other words, not a clue at this stage!

Well, Liszt wrote a Symphonic Poem Orpheus who spent a lot of time in the Underworld, or there's his From the Cradle to the Grave, the latter object eventually ending up "under ground"?

The Liebestraume are three beautiful dreams ...

And many "light classical" piano recital CDs include a "medley" of his most famous pieces.


But I Lack all conviction!

Ferney, your answer is the best and may be right (as no-one else has given one!) but what about the 'polished' aspect (Angle says "The dream might be considered polished to enhance its beauty, on telling) I am no Classics scholar but there's something about dreams being either rough or polished isn't there, in mythology? As to the vegetables being whatever they are in any language - And, was Angle's 'By Jove' a clue?
Edit: Have to be off by 6pm, hopefully when I tune in a lot later we may be further forward.
