    Them's the three

In fact there was an easier link to Versailles - all three were at various times the holders of senior music posts at Versailles.

Want to waft us to pastures new?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

      I'd be delighted to.

A W to link Kismet, a Grecian story and a river.

Sorry no. It's in the South East. (Mind you the Wensum might be, for all I know ! )

The Greek tale is probably one of the best known.

The Wey is the one I've kept thinking about but several go's have failed to find a link with Kismet...

But maybe the river doesn't start with a W...

You are right. The river begins with a T. No-one is on a roll at the moment

Thames, Teise, Tillingbourne, Tillingham - never been sure what constitutes "sout-east"

so is this the 1953 musical called Kismet, the village in Kansas, or something else ?

Good sleuthing...you are right...it is indeed Kismet the musical......and you're well on your way, I'd say, to solving it.

                          It is the Thames

I started with delighted surprise to find the following "Borodin bought Park Place, Britain's most expensive house, near Henley-on-Thames"...

                            Wrong Borodin...

However, are we concerned with the right Borodin, whose tunes were appropriated for Kismet the musical ?

No I am afraid that we are not ....if it helps the Greek link refers to a wooden opera.
