    Yes, that is irrelevant!

Mercia's reference to Daniel Purcell relates to the unmasked Queen...

Exactly... (I think 'mask' was an alternative spelling at the time)

One down - and a bit of a double connection there, D Purcell also having been organist at Magdalen College.

Another Daniel is similarly connected with Waynflete's foundation...

            Telemann's father-in-law was Daniel Eberlin

            ??

I wonder what this sentence in wiki's Eberlin entry means - Allegedly, he proposed two thousand different scordatura for the violin

It's a Greek dip made with aubergine and garlic, isn't it?

The Telemann connection is with one of his compositions...

No it's more direct than that.

Nothing to do with Belshazzar either way...

... the 1894 du Maurier cartoon in Punch -

[One fashionable youth asking whether his friend liked Botticelli, foppish friend replied that he preferred chianti]

"Botticelli isn't a wine, you juggins!...

Yes, silly of me - the aubergine one's called Melisma.

                          Scordatura's just garlic and breadcrumbs...

                            That's right, mercs!

In fact there are two options:

                            the oratorio: http://www.classicalarchives.com/work/787767.html

or a cantata if you prefer:

"...the isle is full of noises,

                              So we have

                              1) Telemann's works with "Daniel" in the title
                              2) Daniel Purcell who was organist at Magdalen Oxford and completed his cousin (?brother) Henry's "Indian Queen" with a "Mask" of his own composing...

                              and...

                              someone to follow Daniel Purcell...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
