well I suppose this twice-set libretto will lead to two pieces of music

I've only found one (irrelevant) opera which actually begins with Y

I'm still not quite sure if hedgehog intends 'author' to mean 'composer' - not that I know any Cornish composers

I had a quick look at Wiki's List of Cornish musicians:

It says Malcolm Arnold is Cornish "by adoption." From his list of compositions I get this:

        Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Nice to see some people puzzling out loud!

I did say that Mercia was correct to assume that the Cornish "author" was a composer. Most definitely born there, but doesn't wear their Cornishness prominently.

The artist in question died last century. That an artist (of the painterly kind) wrote the libretto/text is quite pertinent to the Y to be found.

... an elegant avoidance of specifying gender - possibly a hint - or a red herring

Definitely not a red herring, just annoying avoidance!

Cornwall in the UK. The composer actually lives there too! (well who wouldn't). P.S. Technicolor is a good a place as any to find the solution.

I have been trying to see if I can fit Alexandre Benois into all this.

                    But failed...

NO No No! The composer is still very much alive! (the past tense was referring to the earlier post, sorry!)

P.S. Try the other way, get the word first.....painter...Technicolor, not red .......

I plump for Graham Fitkin and From Yellow to Yellow

but no idea about the artist/librettist

                                You are correct!

Now to the artist: synaesthesia and, well you know pictures....exhibitions and all that!

Edit`; I have to depart - dinner & then a concert, I'm sure someone will oblige with the rest, will call in this evening late.
