Du Maurier wrote a lot of her stories about Cornwall and she lived there too but your stricture re dates uis probably right

Patrick Gale is a writer currently alive & writing & living in Cornwall. His novel Notes From An Exhibition is about a painter and her family in Cornwall and also features a cameo appearance from Barbara Hepworth.
