    Anton, it's very noble (some would say foolhardy) of you and your dear wife to allow your celebrations to be interrupted, and I would like to suggest that we leave you in peace for the rest of the evening. However...

    The particular tree I am barking up at present involves Roy Jenkins and Roy of the Rovers. If you could tell me that is wrong then I, for one at least, can guarantee not to disturb you again until the morrow

    EDIT: And staring me in the face all the while: Roy Harris - Harris Tweed

    That's it, isn't it?

        What S connects:
        - an Engel in a band of brothers;
        - a composer, interested in the occult, whose third symphony was first performed a century after his second;
        - a symphony by a different composer, with an Ealing connection, first performed exactly 50 years after the above composer's second (and, ergo, 50 years before the third)?

            Well, I suppose it's one for the researchers/googlers rather than the lateral thinkers/crossword solvers. Go on, Mercia. Have a go! We need fresh blood...

              Funnily enough I was researching one of the composers in relation to a different puzzle we had a few days ago! This thread is wonderful for broadening knowledge isn't it?

                So are you going to offer us a solution, Anna, or are you just signifying that I've made it too easy in the hope that someone else will?

                I wholeheartedly agree with you on the mind-expanding qualities of this thread, not to mention its addictive properties...!

                  Well, I could offer an answer if you want me to (which possibly may be right) but I thought mercia was going to jump in and solve it plus I said I would sit out the next few puzzles. Where's Caliban - nursing a sore head after his wine tasting? I don't think the last element of the clue is particulary easy but probably requires some prior knowledge of the composer involved.

                  Beautiful day here again isn't it?

                      Me voilà The eyes are suffering slightly, the head's ok... we had an interesting time, 4 whites, 4 reds, France -v- New World - so, 2 French Chardonnays -v- a S African and an Australian; and 2 French Pinot Noir v a New Zealand and an Australian... The discreet little white Macon was the best white for me, not liking the big buttery Chards.; and then a red French Vosne-Romanée above all: yum! Too expensive to think about buying any though...

                      And then meetings this morning.

                      I am only now thinking about rubbers's latest.

                      But yes the warm sun and aromas of mown grass made getting into work very pleasant today
                      "...the isle is full of noises,
                      Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
                      Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                              Yes, that's the new moving staircase they've just built there. A bit gaudi, I thought.

                              Keep going Anton, I think you're just about to hit the ice wall.

                              I have to go out for lunch now, but I may be gone some time...

                                Further north, I think.
