Ahem!
What S had a winning relationship with Mendelssohn, taught in a flattened European city and studied with someone who sounded like he might have been related to a South American president who achieved something that even Evita did not?

OK a little help perhaps .....
Of what country was Evita a prominent politician?
And what is the family name of the current president of that country?
This will give you the name of one of S's teachers

Hmm - Argentina's president is Cristina Elisabet Fernández de Kirchner which suggests Theodor Kirchner. Maybe it's a Schumann?

Time for bed, but a clue before I go ....
This S sounds like he should be found in Nottingham

wiki says that J G Schneider junior (1789-1864) had "artistic connections" to Mendelssohn, Liszt and Schumann - but that's all I can find
afterthought - by rights Shoe-man should be found in Nottingham I suppose
cobblers !!! - Bob Schumann wasn't Anglo-German
<doh> getting confused - I now realise we are after the winner of the 1889 Mendelssohn Scholarship or is it called Mendelssohn Prize ? - more confusion
(EDIT - was my thought that Nottingham is a centre of shoe-manufacturing a complete aberration ?? )Last edited by mercia; 21-02-13, 04:01.
