I think we inferred earlier in the month that hedgehog is not of the male gender, here:

I'm sure your blessings will ensure forgiveness, for 'tis a good-humoured hedgehog, methinks!

            I try

            Now, to the puzzLe

What’s that? Isolde’s lover is an Italian? He should have known better than to try to flog some amber to a Jewish priest!

            Calling for L!

Been trying to think sideways about possible clues inbuilt: "Calling"... clue? "Flog"... whipping rather than selling... ? And an Italian Tristan? Putting "Tristano" into google just gets you hundreds of Italian websites about Wagner Maybe not a male lover - Tristana? Buñuel movie, Spanish... Have any Italians sung the role of Tristan? I can't find one, if so.

              Going nowhere fast here!

              Where's the Cavalry?

Stick with "Tristano" Caliban, no need to complicate things!

I think I've found a jazz musician called Lennie Tristano
does this amber selling take place in an opera ?
is amber shorthand for nectar ?
should we translate 'what's that' into a foreign language ? Italian ?

Lamento di Tristano e la Rotta [for lute] ?

Is correct. I'll come back later with another clue if necessary. We are certainly dealing with translations however!

Goodness, this begging is worse than the cat's!

No stick with Lennie (short for Leonard).

I will be away for a few hours now. I'm sure it will be solved quite quickly. You just need to pick the right word to translate (and the right language) or, find a synonym for.

                              I resemble that remark!

I had no idea. We shall, I suspect, be wiser after this puzzle is solved!
