                        Mrs Flay fancied some tinned fruit with meringue and ice cream just now. I opened the raspberries. They looked a strange dark brown colour. The tin said Use by Feb 09.

                        Further examination of the meagre supplies in the cupboard showed custard powder (Sept 10), tinned pineapples (Aug 12) and various other obsolete items.

                        I used to believe that things kept for ages in tins. But not any more.
