... not much better. It concerns some foreign tourists, lost among the colleges in Turl Street. An Oxford passer-by : "That's the problem with Americans - they can't tell the difference between Lincoln and Jesus... "

Thanks Anna, and by the way I did enjoy the concert last night, although disappointed with the Schnittke which was the main reason for going.

Anyway, I assume a have a clear path for K, unless mercia asserts his right to set the clue.

            A K to link:

A modern work, but with Anglo - Saxon origins
A modern group, but concerned with ancient music
A work featuring one of AA's notable contributors!

What's the other joke? EDIT: The moral is, to read to the end of threads before replying.

Was just curious to know more about 'the wrong Jesus College'...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

ON a more positive note: a puzzle from Oddball !

I feel so quilty, it's certainly Four Hail Marys and a Novena for me (and others!) in being so wound up with the rugby and roasting Sunday lunch that no-one has had a shot at Oddball's puzzle! Come on Guys, he's sat there dressed as a white rabbit for four hours without so much of a nibble!!

It's true Anna, I think Sunday afternoon walks / lassitude / rugby &c. have intervened. I have toyed with it mentally without getting down to any serious googling, and am going to be side-tracked for a bit now.

Re the ancient and modern theme and Ks, I can't get out of my mind the bit of research I did yesterday off the back of Meades's 'Essex' programme: the mention of 'Social Credit' (which I remember an elderly relative talking about) led me to the odd outfit called the Kibbo Kift - sort of arts & crafts offshoot of the scouts (the title deriving from ancient Kentish).

None of those Ks of relevance, I shouldn't think, Odders?

Knuckles duly rapt! (rapped, wrapt, wrapped? ) Just pay attention at the back there in future!
His clue, a work featuring one of AA's notible contributors - well, there's none of us that begin with a K but, a hard C could be ...... You? Alas, I have been unable to find a connection.

I'm glad you appreciate my predicament, Anna!
                        And could be he.
Agreed Caliban, that Essex is a very interesting county, it's not all boring estates stretching out along the A12, but going far away from London to Chelmsford, Colchester, it is almost in Constable country.

Unfortunately you are heading in the wrong direction!

Well if it's Caliban that means The Tempest. For starters Wiki says that : "At least forty-six operas or semi-operas based on The Tempest exist." Then there's all the incidental music...

                          This may take some time...

                          A modern group
As in pop group, or could this be any type of musical ensemble?

Anna and the King of Siam?
                            King Crimson??
                            Judith Weir's King Harald's Saga?

Not King fhg - but it is an equally good answer - but not on the card.

Can't help on the time aspect Flay. But it is yer actual genuine echt classical music group.

                                Going off-line for tonight!
