The "Danish" was the giveaway. Waldemar is the principal male character in Schönberg's Gurre-lieder, who curses God after his wife has murdered his mistress. (Sometimes even I think that God gets a bum deal!)
I can't go any further today; my partner's coming home from a fortnight in hospital this afternoon, so I'll only intermittently be seated at the keyboard. If somebody else would take over the baton (as Sir Simon said recently)?Numquam Satis!

In the absence of Ferney, I'll fulfil Coles Law!
The Polish pianist was Waldemar Malicki http://www.waldemarmalicki.com/
The piano was a Waldemar Berlin ...difficult to Google...
The banned opera was Die falsche Waldemar by Paul Höffer who was born in Berlin
and lastly King Waldemar in Gurrelieder
