just noticed this is slightly different from the original question - we have lost the blasphemer

so is the blasphemer an Austrian composer ?

      Yes it was....

the piano has the same name as a character in a piece of work written by the Austrian composer....who is different from the composer of the opera that was banned!

The name of the blasphemer is a character in a choral work

I think the Nazis banned Mendelssohn, didn't they? so perhaps one of his choral works ?

oh bother, Mendelssohn not born in Austria

            my head hurts

oh lor, it was a banned opera not a banned choral work - I'm in a muddle

OK - what I think I'm looking for is a name beginning with W which is shared by ALL of the following

                  1) a German piano manufacturers
                  2) a Polish pianist
                  3) an opera, by a German composer, which was banned by the Nazis
                  4) a blasphemous character from a choral work by an Austrian composer

That was an excellent description of the matter in hand, mercs.

The only slight demur is the piano....as I said, it is a bit of a mongrel, seemingly, and more a type as far as I can see rather than a manufacturer per se. But the 'real' or maybe even the original one is supposed to be German.

                              Not biblical, sorry. More Danish.
