I've been at my desk cogitating but all I can come up with so far is Lucerne. Milanese-born Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and Inge Borkh making her debut there in 1940 in Strauss's Gypsy Baron, but Menotti....?

None of his works were premiered there and of course he went on to found a rival festival in Spoleto. Some googling has only unearthed the mildly interesting fact that Edith Mathis was born in Lucerne and sang in the premiere of his Help! Help! The Globolinks. (And of course Help! was a Beatles song/film) ?

So maybe that's it - Lucerne?

Well done rubbra, I was just about to post my answers which were totally different to yours! (Glad I didn't now!) Hercule, it was an interesting one but the second clue baffled me. There is a Menotti/Beatles connection with Yes, I love her from Goya and Beatles And I love her

Edit: Abbado's first conducting gig was Prok's Love of Three Oranges (another piece of trivia!)

Dŵr Cymru You can do it via cut and paste but on the number keyboard I cannot find there is a code for a W with a circumflex.

My Lithuanian is female, as it happens. Not that will help you very much.

The enticingly described colour-bar-maid is also female, as signified by use of the word 'maid' (which is also a general clue). In keeping with the character of the messageboards you can also assume she is musical. You might also assume, correctly, that she had been the victim of a colour bar, and therefore perhaps a little dusky of hue?

I can't play at the moment (will it be as obsure as the J I wonder?) I had a communication from HMRC today and whilst I'm sure they don't make mistakes ..... this looks all wrong to me, so paperwork needs to be gone through
