    From Youtube:

Thank you cloughie, I have learned something today
Unless I've missed it the only missing bit now is the bells which relates to one of his works.

Louis Vierne from Poitiers, was almost blind, hence darkness, Death - two works Epitaph and Stele pour un enfant defunt and the nature of his own demise at the organ and Carillon de Westminster was my bells reference.

a W dreckly from someone please, the Odds maybe or Flay.

        Wossapp'nin?

        I have a W

A military wedding in Roman Gothic church?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think this may be an appropriate follow-on from Vierne
            namely

            Charles-Marie Widor organ works

Marche Nuptiale opus 64, Symphonie Gothique opus 70, Symphonie Romane opus 73

            not sure about military though

                  Alexander von ZZZ-Zemlinsky!

Der Zwerg (The Dwarf), an opera.
Die Seejungfrau (The Little Mermaid), a symphonic fantasy.
                  Kreidekreis (Chalk Circle), another opera

Poor guy, he courted Alma Schindler, his composition student who apparently felt "a great deal of pressure from close friends and family to end the relationship. They were primarily concerned with Zemlinsky's lack of an international reputation and by an unappealing physical appearance." She married Mahler instead.

We sort of have a loose "rule" that when it gets to X, Y & Z, the setter can elect to do any of them or pass direct to A, because of the relative paucity of options. However, great for winkling one out.

Is this one clue or are there the usual 3 elements compacted within your pithy question?

Thanks Caliban for explaining the finer points.

Just a single clue, as I thought of it on the spur of the moment.

But I can add further clues if necessary.

Sorry to stretch your minds unnecessarily.

nothing [I expect] to do with that old TV programme which used Respighi's The Birds as a theme tune ?

                                thought not
