Perhaps it's Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling? I can't see the link yet, but I just hope it is...

I'm afraid not!! They are all musicians in the puzzle.

This chap is often overlooked, student of Stanford...

DM: Good evening. We're talking this evening to Sir Arthur Greeb-Streebling.
            PC: Streeb-Greebling.
DM: Oh, I'm terribly sorry, I thought it was Greeb-Streebling.
PC: No, Streeb-Greebling. You're thinking of Greeb-Streebling. The "T" is silent, as in "fox".

You just lurched out of a medication-induced haze, Flay old sport?

No, but I am finding that when I am busy I can find more time for AA - I don't have an excuse to get away from the eagle eye of Mrs Flay... who thinks I should have done all the Christmas cards by now today

But I'm getting there with the conundrum. How about Sir Arthur Somervell?

The co-codamol clouds clear and the sunshine of lucidity gilds the solution to the puzzle.

In other words: too right mate! Somervell, Sharp and Moeran were all pupils at Uppingham.

Well done Flay. Come back with a V ven you are ready

                          Vorking on it...

We had Uppingham once before, but only with Moeran in common. Strangely it was part of a double-barrelled question that caused some confusion:

Doubledecker-itis: highly contagious. Interesting twofer puzzle from Lats back then - I remember it now I read it.

                                Oh well.
