You're looking for, respectively, a composer, a performer making a cameo appearance as himself, and an early exponent of what you might call Strictly Ballroom. And they're all winners (so to speak).

Dare I ask if the surname of the composer is a city?

EDIT Each clue should lead you to a common, i.e. shared, first name. (And each 'V' is a winner , remember..... )
The first clue is, dare I say it, capital.
The film features a 'V' making a cameo appearance as himself.

er, well I've got victor meaning winner
and Victor Borge appearing in the 1983 film The King of Comedy
I can find a few composers called Victor
The capital of Ohio is Columbus
I guess Victor Silvester is our ballroom man

Another splendid team effort! The three musical Victors were indeed:
                    (a) Victor Herbert (who wrote a 'Columbus' suite); (b) Victor Borge (who appeared in the King of Comedy) and (c) Victor Silvester, whose 'Dancing Club' ran for 17 years on BBC TV.
On to 'W'! (I do not presume to suggest who is to set it!)

That was a difficult one Ofca, (although when you see the answer suddenly all becomes glaringly obvious!) I had no idea about Victor Silvester. So, it's over to hercule for the W

if you're sure. others did the hard graft I think.
hopefully only one correct answer to this should be a quick one

                        what W connects

                        - Papageno
                        - Ward Swingle
                        - Elizabeth Schwarzkopf

I've been offline, surprised no-one has had a go yet, not that I have much inspiration! Is the answer a common name I wonder?

indeed, along the lines of the V question (only simpler)

Well, could it be Walter? Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was married to Walter Legge. Ward Swingle studied under Walter Gieseking and Walter Berry's famous role was as Papageno.
