Glad you are back from choir practice, cloughie, it was getting lonesome here.
Adelina Patti was not the nightingale that was her contemporary Jenny Lind. However mechanical nightingales were used in Respighi's Pines of Rome. Then mallett - another fine mess, Stanley and the Trail of the Lonesome Pine (Virginia the other state). So that leaves Chicago violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Thanks to your heavy hints I may have cracked - shame you couldn't have got Courtney in there somewhere.

You have indeed cracked it, cloughie! Pine it is

The story of Rachel Barton Pine's accident makes terrifying reading:

On January 16, 1995, Barton Pine was severely injured in a train accident in the suburb of Winnetka, where she taught violin lessons. As she was exiting a Metra commuter train with her violin over her shoulder, the doors closed on the strap to her case, pinning her left shoulder to the train. The doors, which were controlled remotely and had no safety sensors, failed to reopen, and she was dragged 366 feet by the train before being pulled underneath and run over, severing one leg and mangling the other
It's a great credit to her that she continued with her career.

        A recent tweet of hers:

What's the most exciting sound in the world? An orchestra warming up!

... am feeling a bit querulous about producing a Q - what about an R?

... an R which might bring together French art nouveau, a silversmith, and troubadors and weavers?
