All I know is it's been a very, very long time. Like crazed old vampires who have sucked their own veins dry, we welcome the sight of fresh blood in the form of the handsome, young Vinteuil, our grail prince, our warrior, our salvation!

Doesn't sound anything like our local Co-op. Should I be comforted, or dismayed, by this fact?

Thank you, thank you - you have all been most kind...

Now for the N clue :

"It sounds as if this hero of a romantic German opera grew up in Piraeus - perhaps St Bernadette would know?"

St. Bernadette? Anyone else here know Lourdes I wonder? She joined the Sisters of Charity at Nevers. I wonder if we are looking for that word? Edit: I've drunk the Holy Water there (just a bit of trivia!)

                  I'm sorry, I can't resist this.

                  Er-hem...

No, Anna, I've Nevers been there.....

We have a bottle of the stuff in our house, Anna, much to the chagrin of this Huguenot soul (it's a long story).

Huguenot Tapiola. Is that a clue? There's an Opera called Les Huguenots which has a character called Nevers in that. Oh well, I am going well off track here!

Like policemen, the cluemeisters and -meistresses in this thread seem never to be off duty

I haven't the faintest idea whether Huguenots come into it or not, Anna!

Chez Tapiola is a multi-denominational institution, at least it was until certain parties lost their faith

No idea hercule! I'm just waffling on about Never! Talking of which, Never on a Sunday was filmed in Piraeus. I'll shut up now and let others solve it.

Reminds me of this fine ditty that my dad used to spin when I was young.
