Jerzy Semkow was music director of the Saint Louis Symphony

Paderewski's Symphony in B minor "Polonia" Op. 24 performed in June 2011 at the Polish Presidential Palace to mark the 70th anniversary of his death by the Sinfonia Varsovia under Jerzy Maksymiuk.

Jerzy Petersburski (1895–1979), a Polish pianist and composer who wrote the tango: To Ostatnia Niedziela (The Last Sunday) in 1936, which gained the nickname of Suicide Tango, regarded as the perfect background music for shooting oneself in the head. It was whistled by the character Mitya as he bled to death in the Russian 1994 film Burnt by the Sun

Pleased to say I'm now back online chez moi. Lesson learned: if you want to sort out a connectivity problem, mention it to all your local friends and acquaintances and one of them will give you a reliable contact, who will not only fix your problem but confirm your suspicion that your ISP's 'Customer Service' centre has been treating you in the way in which Philip Larkins's parent apparently treated him.
