    Perhaps time for a clue:

The two cellos each come accompanied by an orchestra, the viola comes alone (or sometimes with a dancer).

No. Look for the title of a work.

Cor cheers, scb - couldn't have done it without you

What F connects a sinking boat, a disappearing garden within sight of Jerusalem and a conversation with a copse?

The sinking boat is near the Spanish Steps?

Yay Angle, good to see you back here
The location is not specified - and by boat perhaps I'm misleading you - it's a barge really

                      Two hours gone …

A sinking barge? Could be Peter Grimes or ... something else? A pub figures large in this work too, nominally so

A disappearing garden? This work sounds a bit like a leading Spanish footballer?

A conversation with a copse? Didn't some goon used to mangle that?

this would be Delius's Village R&J, the Paradise Garden being the pub, a hay barge sinking at (or towards) the end
can't say I know the opera, but this is what wikipedia says

well besides the composer being Fred, the premiere was conducted by a Fritz and one of the characters is a fiddler

Fred'll do me - looking for two more Freds, I reckon

                                don't know any Spanish footballers
my first thought with the copse was Forest Murmurs, but no Fred there
goons are presumably Peter, Spike, Harry or Michael - nothing springs immediately to mind
copse is probably a substitute for another word - forest, wood, trees or something
