Venetian Games (Lutoslawski); Death In Venice (Britten); and a Venetian tricorn hat (apparently popular at Carnival time).
(Probably too obvious)

(The English words to the tune of Carnival in Venice begin "My hat it has three corners" - which is a perfect gift for AA setters wishing to set up a de Falla blind alley! )
If only cloughie had had the courage of his convictions - after all, I didn't negate his offerings as I did with vinty's Vines. (No no is buried in Venice, as is Diaghilev.)

A 'W', please, to link first lines by (a) Gustav Mahler (b) John Ireland and (c) Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne.

We are talking weather, I think!
The Cahn/Styne first line is "Oh the weather outside is frightful..." from "Let it snow"
The Mahler is the stormy song from "Kindertotenlieder" - "In diesem Wetter, in diesem Braus.." ("In this weather, in this storm...")
Shall do further research to complete the answer!"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
