    Quite right

    So I need a P.... Let's see...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I always seem to get P... Piazzolla last time, Poulenc not long ago....

      Oh well!

This P united Edward Elgar, Victor Herbert and Richard Strauss before a 16-year Death and Resurrection...

          No perhaps about it

Care to explain by reference to a mayonnaise-based chopped vegetable salad?

Victor Herbert conducted from the outset in 1898.
Elgar conducted the Enigma Variations at the conclusion of the 1907 season.
Strauss was a guest conductor in the 1903-4 season.
In 1910 the orchestra went bust. It took 16 years to resurrect it.

Was that Quite what you wanted, sir?

I deliberately didn't say 'diced' as I knew some pedant would come along and make a thing of it

Perhaps I should have said 'grated', admittedly. One craves the indulgence of Monsieur Vinjaune-Pointilleux de Mirepoix

Sorry, I'm going to do a mercia-style sidestep and jump to an R as time is very limited just now...

Claude's breathing softly, Frédéric's unnumbered number, and Hector's just fantastic

I don't think this is what you want -
                      but

one of Chopins' works ohne opuszahl is vars on Robert le Diable

Julia Roberts in Sleeping with the Enemy had Berlioz Sinf Fantastique as her fave toon

Robert Pattinson in the Twilight series has Debussy as one his leitmotifs....
