        OK..here goes.

What K connects an 18th century composer, sounds as if it was made by a character from a 19th century opera and a 20th century composer?

Back somewhat belatedly from a soirée... good to find a K waiting Puzzling too... the only character from a 19th century opera I can think of who made things was Hans Sachs from Mastersingers... but can't think of any Ks to connect with anything else.

Who else makes things in an opera? Puppet-makers in Tales of Hoffmann perhaps...

          Something for the morning, methinks.

          And so to bed.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I've been thinking this over a bit and would be better to slightly rewrite the clue thus...

What K sounds as if it was made by a character from a 19th century opera and a namesake who was an 18th century composer, accompanied by a 20th century composer?

Could it be Kraft? Moses made one!
              Moses in Egypt 1818, Rossini.
              Antonin Kraft (c. 1749–1820).
              William Kraft (born 1923)

A very good suggestion, Flay, but not what I had in mind. All three people I mention were involved in K.

sorry I'm going to have to ask some questions
is the composer of the 19th century opera German, French, Russian, Italian, or none of these ?

                      I shall plump for Wagner
so I want an 18th century composer whose (sur)name is the same as a Wagnerian character

Yes, Wagner it is. Not quite...you are looking for K which was made by, as well as the other two mentioned, someone who 'sounds' like a Wagnerian character.

A belated welcome to AA, RM

It's fascinating watching a newbie getting the hang of things - I'm pretty hopeless at this but I love to have a go de temps en temps.

I look forward to many hours of happy head-scratching

Female. Many examples of the genre of K.
