Later became the first scholar in Britain to research Byzantine Music; his Oxford History of Music volume is still a reference work only slightly outdated!

The Finnish connection is Sibelius - Robert Layton was taught by Wellesz and wrote several books about Sibelius and many informed and informative reviews of recordings of music Sibelius, Wellesz and others for Gramophone

I think mercs got us started on the right trail - over to you for the X, Y, Z or even A depending on how strong you're feeling mercs!
