Ooh, I say, I was only a Prefect, not Head Girl!
I had a little inkling again about this, but I'm cooking and unsure, where is everyone, surely all the men type stuff, footie, FI, isn't on at the mo? Oh, I see Tennis is on (deeply boring) Anyway, the thought I had was that somehow Benjamin Britten was embroiled in this. Tell me 'tis not so so I can go back to the kitchen.

I venture, as clues to others, Lucretia, may be wrong, I am now off.

I think mercs has finally created the puzzle that nobody's going to get right?

                  Don't be! It's always a relief!

The Badinerie is a movement from Britten's fabulous Diversions - for Left hand piano and orchestra...

Left is the only L I can get.... apart from Leon Fleischer who made it a party piece.

But I can't get a connection to the other elements of the puzzle...

PS just saw the "right" gag so I think I'm on the wrong side of the right track...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

We seem to have a set of piano works for Left Hand:

Otakar Hollmann commissioned Capriccio by Janáček

Siegfried Rapp premiered Prokofiev's Concerto No. 4

Anyway, I can't set an M - just snatching a moment or two among house guests...

*Update: ah yes! Yours is the M, my dear fellow.

Paul Wittgenstein for whom a few caring composers wrote pieces for left hand, appeared very ungracious about most of them saying they had different levels of unplayability. Now I can understand him being grumpy having lost his right arm but when the good and the great composers had shown their reverence by writing stuff for his remaining arm you'd have thought he'd have been a bit grateful!
