Not Dark Lady by Cher, then?

Must be Lady in the Dark, by your clue. Head scratching again.

Well I had to google again. Weill once more! (Last time it was the Margate Mussel.) I must explore more of his byroads, if only for this thread.

OK, I think you've earned your E now!

What E was not at all dumb and, incidentally, helped some of our greatest playwrights and a contemporary composer?

Thank you for introducing a fresh musical strain into the discussion.

Three have tried, and failed. Who will step up next?

One approach might be to think of the (non-musical) namesake who might well be thought of, in modern parlance, as dumb.

But there is no strain with this product?

No - human and audible, but fictitious.

(I shall soon be annoying OFCA with a drip-feed of clues, I suspect. )

Drip feed away, mon brave! Actually, I'm currently taking a little break from AA and following with great interest a couple of other threads addressing the following questions: (a) What is the purpose of Platform 3? and (b) is 'Classical Collection' merely an extension of 'Breakfast'? Still, I shall be interested to discover the answer to your intriguing poser.
