I was impelled by the recent BAL on the Brahms Serious Songs to get the Thos: Quasthoff - I was very taken by the disc (and even more by the Schubert Schwanengesang with which it's coupled - marvellous... ) and I was as a consequence reading the Quasthoff entry on wiki - and so I knew that -
a) he was refused entry to the Hannover conservatoire because of the compulsory piano-playing requirement (which his thalidomide condition made impossible for him)
b) he had done a jazz disc
c) he had been on Desert Island Discs

Serendipitous indeed, Vinteuil. And an interesting recommendation for the Schwanengesang. I remember hearing a live recital of Dichterliebe on Radio France Musique a few years back which completely stopped me in my tracks. Turned out to be Herr Q. Saw him at the Barbican doing Bach Cantatas after that which was equally memorable. I was a bit underwhelmed by his Desert Island discs choices though. For one who professes to love Jazz he plumped for Chick Corea's particularly cheesey Love Castle.

Just when Leanne finds her true vacation as a bag lady, Peter has to go and ruin things and give her ANOTHER last chance. I've no idea what the answer to rubbernecker's question is, by the way, but that scarcely seems to matter when REALLY important Weatherfield issues need our attention. (By the way, if I know ANYTHING about rolling stock, that was NEVER never the 15.55 Virgin Manchester Piccadilly to Euston pulling out as Peter hobbled along the platform. It was more likely the delayed 15.49 all stations to Stockport).

Returned from remote country fastness, I find no outstanding question to get my teeth into (I got Padstow just before I left but all the OSS SOS nonsense escapes me still (I only read through quickly))...

But OFCA's Corrie-inspired meanderings just gave me a laugh... as did Harry Hill on the same scene:

Several of the mannerists worked in Rome, and since we are dealing with musical associations I assume that the relevant artist is Benvenuto Cellini. That is currently as far as I can get.

Well, there are plenty of films with Roman in the title but no connection with Oxford. Only film I can think of is I Claudius by Robert Graves, because of his Oxford connection, but that doesn't fit. So, it's a 'thing' not a person, like a car as hercule suggests? Can't be a Mini as in the Italian Job as that was set in Turin.
